'11 Berger Zweigelt 8/40 (liter)

'11 Berger Zweigelt 8/40 (liter)
Kremstal, Austria
balanced, cherry, herbs

Typical of Tzvye-gelts, this is medium-bodied with soft tannins. That is, they don't feel harsh or overly drying on your palate. You'll find aromas and flavors of cherry and raspberry, a little spice, good acid, and a short finish that has some nice meaty flavors.

The grape was created by Dr. Fritz Zweigelt's cross of Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent. It's sometimes used to make serious, bolder, more structured wines, but this isn't one of those times. It's 12.5% ABV, and unoaked. The importer is Terry Thiese [theess], who has a bit of a following.

Remember that a 1L bottle is 33.8 ounces, so you can get almost 7 conventional glasses from it.
