'11 Marichal Tannat 10/40

'11 Marichal Tannat 10/40
Canalones, Uruguay
full, blackberry, mint

Tannat, originally from southwest France, is king in Uruguay (much like Malbec, also originally French, is in Argentina). This is the first one I've had that I liked; they're often too big, with too little acid, with these problems compounded by oak-aging. You may be waiting on people who've had similar experiences.

This one is different. It has acid to balance, and no oak-aging. There are great flavors and aromas of blackberries and other ripe fruits, mint (more on the nose) and salinity. You'll find that saline quality in many wines from coastal vineyards the world over. Point folks who ask for Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah, or Zinfandel in this direction.
