'11 Surrau Juannisolu Cannonau (cherries, herbs, the Mediterranean) 10/40

'11 Surrau Juannisolu Grenache 10/40
Sardinia, Italy
cherries, herbs, the Mediterranean

Surrau is a producer of wines from Sardinia, the island a hundred-plus miles off of Italy's west coast. Their "Juannisolu" line is supposed to be "classical" Sardinian wines; they do weirder stuff with their other line. "Cannonau" is Grenache.

This is a light-to-medium bodied red fruit wine with high acid. For how light it is, there's a big bite of bright fruit and herbs up front, something the Pinot Noir drinker who is interested in this wine may not be expecting. Then you get the refreshing effect of the acid, and it finishes with salinity, to be expected with a wine from coastal vineyards that get strong winds.
