Sicily, Italy
bright, floral, expressive
Here's
a bright, easy-drinking Sicilian red. It has a pleasantly sweet and
floral aroma that folks might not expect from a red wine. On the palate,
you get a variety of red fruit and good acidity. This would be best
with our leaner charcuterie and more herb-heavy vegetable dishes, and would be a good choice for Pinot Noir drinkers.
It's 100% Frappato, a grape
common to the southeastern Sicilian coast. It's often blended with Nero
D'Avola. By itself, it's usually light, fruity, and reminiscent of good
Beaujolais, and that's certainly the case with this one. Of the handful
of Frappatos I've tasted, this Centonze is on the extreme of that; the
others were somewhat fuller, darker (in color and in flavor), and/or
less expressive on the nose.
