'12 San Pietro Müller-Thurgau 10/40
Alto Adige, Italy
light, savory, mineral
The grape Müller-Thurgau was created by Dr. Hermann Müller in a part of Switzerland called Thurgau. Like Zweigelt, it's considered a wine for everyday consumption, as opposed to a great wine, but I think this is a very good one. Alto Adige is in the northernmost part of Italy, where German is the primary language.
Characteristically, this wine is light-bodied with some floral aromas, zesty citrus and stone fruit flavors, along with savory herbs and minerality. It's not high in acid, which helps make the finish longer than you'd expect for a wine this light. The finish emphasizes the mineral quality without being bitter.
